Biography

Gutierrez is a multimedia artist who connects our past and present by drawing inspiration from hidden and misconstrued historical events. He creates multi-layered paintings and installations by combining textured and colorful canvases, black paintings, and screen-printed images sourced from archives.

Gutierrez is participating in the 2024 Bronx Museum AIM Biennial and is showing Las Nueves Demandas(The Nine Demands) at The Shed as part of the Open Call exhibition. In 2023, he exhibited Entre Sombras | Between Seams, a solo show at The Cherry Arts in Ithaca, NY. In 2022, he was a resident at the Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts. In addition, Gutierrez has received a grant from the City Artist Corps Grant, NYC, and the AIM fellowship at The Bronx Museum of the Arts. In 2019, he exhibited his first solo show at GoggleWorks Center for the Arts. In 2016, spectrum Miami Art Fair awarded him the Launchpad Artist Award and a site-specific installation. Gutierrez has also shown in the Coral Springs Museum of Art, private galleries, and Christie’s, New York.
