Humberto Díaz (b.1975, Cienfuegos, Cuba) is a multi-disciplinary Cuban artist who creates site-specific works, performances and installations, with the latter ranging from micro interventions of imperceptibly subtle changes to spacious transformations that have spectacular impact. He graduated from the prestigious Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana in 2004. In his artist statement, Díaz notes that he “looks to focus new meanings by constructing poetic images that start from contexts and/or specific situations. The works are also characterized by the inquiry into the relationship of people with objects and the contexts in which they are situated. The reflection (both literal and literary), disjunction, interactivity, physical and psychological perception and interaction with the public, are key elements to understanding my work.” The artist's attention to details in the objective world provokes a reinterpretation of reality within the viewer, allowing for an insignificant fragment to become a poetic image that takes on a new dimension as artistic material.
