Collected Visions
Modern and Contemporary Works from the JP Morgan Chase Art Collection
March 5 to May 10, 2009

Collected Visions presented 70 artworks of extraordinary breadth and depth from the JPMorgan Chase Art Collection, one of the most established corporate collections in the world. The exhibition featured paintings, sculptures, photography and works on paper by leading artists who have shaped the course of art in our times, such as Alexander Calder, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Romare Bearden, Gilbert & George, Félix González-Torres, Keith Haring, Jasper Johns, Cindy Sherman and Andy Warhol among others.

The earliest works in Collected Visions date from 1959, the year David Rockefeller, as president of Chase Manhattan Bank, a predecessor company, established the art program and took the lead in corporate art collecting. The latest works were recent acquisitions reflecting the art of the 21st century. Two general criteria were used for selection: a post-1945 focus and an emphasis on American art. Otherwise, selections were unrestricted by theme, style or school.

Spanning 40 American artists and a diverse representation of 19 international artists, the exhibition included many iconic examples by legendary masters, less predictable examples by internationally established artists, and still others by emerging artists

Collected Visions celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Art Collection and the JPMorgan Chase Foundation. This presentation especially acknowledged the role The Bronx Museum of the Arts plays in serving its local schools and communities through solid education and outreach programs.
